Follow these steps to connect your Spotify account to Alexa on your Amazon Echo device: STEP 1. Open the Amazon Alexa app on your iPhone or Android device, then tap the three lines in the top corner. Select 'Settings' from the menu. Scroll down and tap 'Music' or 'Music & Podcasts'. Can you play free Spotify on Alexa? Yes, there is a way to use Spotify with Alexa even if you don’t have a Premium account. To do it, you just need to have the Spotify app in your smart phone or computer, and connect it with your Echo device using Bluetooth. You will have to pair the two devices and play the music in your phone or computer.
Get started
Download the Amazon Alexa app from the Google Play Store or App Store Follow the prompts to set up your new Amazon Echo or Echo Dot Once connected, go to Settings and select Music Click ‘Link New.
Download the Alexa app, open it, and link your Spotify account with these steps:
- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Select Spotify, then Link account to Alexa.
- Enter your Spotify account details.
Set Spotify as your default service for music and podcasts so you don’t need to specify “on Spotify” at the end of your voice commands to play music:
- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Tap Choose default music services.
Note: To set Spotify as your default podcast service, tap Choose default podcast service. - Select Spotify and tap DONE.
Alexa, Spotify connect or connect to Spotify. Alexa, play Spotify (plays where you left off) You can also use the basic music commands once you have Spotify playing, including “Pause,” “Stop,” “Resume,” and “Mute.” If Alexa doesn’t recognize a song or command, you can always go into your Spotify app and find the correct media you were looking for and then simply change the output options to play on the Amazon Echo. Step 1 Connect Amazon Echo device to Amazon Alexa app. You can download Amazon Alexa app from Apple Store or Google Play then register it to connect it to Amazon Echo speaker. Step 2 Link Spotify account to Amazon Alexa.
Note: You still need to say “on Spotify” at the end of commands to play podcasts.

To play music using your Smart Speaker through Spotify Connect, first make sure that your Sonos or Bose system is updated to the latest firmware. Then open the Spotify app on your phone, laptop or tablet. Play any song, then select the “devices” icon. Finally, select the device you want to stream from and start listening. Both Spotify Free and Premium users in India will also be able to stream Spotify through Amazon Alexa for the first time.
